Sphynx history

In Ancient Greek mythology, Sphinx was a monster with the body of a lion and the head of a woman. The name Sphynx means “the sphinx” in ancient Greek. According to myth, Sphinx was created by Hera after Zeus ordered her to create something that would terrify his wife Athena.
She created the Sphinx, and then she fell in love with him. Because of this, Hera cursed Sphinx so that he could never find its mate until he had killed one hundred men, women, and children. After killing these victims, Sphinx became so distraught by what he had done that he threw himself down a mountain cliff and died.
